Inspiration for A Study in Stone
Although all the locations in A Study in Stone are fictionalised, many have been inspired by real locations, and here are a few of them.
Ugbrook House inspired Knightsbrook House, and it does have a small military collection. The family in the story is entirely fictitious. The church and cemetery at Bovey Tracey are real places used in a fictional way. And the Rabbit Cafe in Exeter is a vegan cafe that inspired several parts of the story because it is in the Sitwell area and it does have a well in the corner which they say is the ancient well of Saint Sitwell. Again, the cafe served as an inspiration but no direct reference is made or implied.
All the locations mentioned above were inspirations for some part of an entirely fictional story, and all of the characters in that story were the creation of my imagination, so any resemblance to anyone living or dead is entirely coincidental.
If you want any more information about these places, links are below the gallery, and if you're ever in Devon, all of them are worth a visit.
I hope you enjoy the pictures. read more…
