For fun and a prize, caption the cover of this new scifi comedy book.
Here are some notes to help you hit the right tone.
Dial G for Gravity is the new scifi comedy book I'm about to release. The humour is drawn from an unlikely combination of space opera and film noir private eye stories, so there are lots of references to pick up on. It has a fairly broad range of comedic content, from simple gags to more subtle wit, so I think it will have a broad appeal. It does contain a few F bombs, but the humour isn't coarse or offensive, but rather aims at gentle parody.
You'll need to tell us who's speaking. Is it the man or the woman? Is it the alien? Is it the poor sap getting abducted?
It's up to you.
Winners who are also members of The Awkward Squad will be offered a free ebook of the soon to be released book, Dial G for Gravity.
So that I can offer you a prize if you win, please make sure you put in the correct email address when you comment. Only Awkward Squad members are eligible for the prize, but anyone can join the squad at any time – there are plenty of links on the site and we'll be happy to have you along.
Your email address is not shown on the site and I will not use it for any other purpose.
First of all, I love the title and the fun art cover, Mikey!
I think it’s the woman, based on the cover. The woman vividly looks like her. I mean, she clearly stands out on the cover, ha,ha,ha.
Can’t wait to read it, I’m sure it’s going to be a hit! I’m a huge fan of yours, and of Barry Hutchinson of Space Team!
It might be the alien in the foreground, or it might be the guy in the suit, mansplaining to his date:
“It’s like tossing a new recruit in a blanket.”
Alien: “NEXT!”
Woman to date: “Oh honey, let’s try this one! It looks like a fun ride!”
Man to woman: “Sorry toots. I’m out of tickets…”
LOL! That’s very good.
I think it is the abduct, “Oh Hell, Again!”
Excellent. Funnily enough, that’s more or less what a character says in the book.
Is this like Dial M for Murder only different? You mentioned film noir as an influence. Dial M was written by Frederick Knott and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The play was first presented in 1952 on BBC TV. The film came out in 1954.
Thanks for commenting. The plot isn’t inspired by any one film or book, but there are certain references that I play around with from the private eye / hardboiled detective genre. Hopefully, you’ll have fun spotting them.
The woman ; We’ll that’s one way of getting my husband outta the picture.
Excellent! I can hear that spoken in the manner of Mae West.
It’s the abductee….Help!!! I’m floating and I can’t get down…Love the cover
“That’s the last straw, Frank. I said I’d go to the rave, but no amount of party favors will make me do anal probing.”
LOL!
There goes another one! Why do we always get the blame?!
I like it.
thank you Mike, love reading new to me authors!!
The woman
Let go of my hand, i want to touch and dance that handsome alien
The man on the far right is speaking. “Suddenly, she stopped speaking. The silence was so heavy you could’ve cut it with a cleaver. He wasn’t the first sap to just up and leave her but this time, she was going to make somebody pay.”
Next time we are going to try synchronized airobic’s
Thank you so much for the chance and I am signing up now
Get a rise out of this, John
