Here's a free story, just for you.
A little piece in just 100 words.
If you like this story, please leave a comment. If it looks like people will be interested, I'll post them up more often – I might even make it a weekly feature. Free Flash Fiction Thursday sounds kind of snappy.
Simon knew that the heating made the floorboards creak.
He wasn't afraid to be alone in the house. He preferred it. He was used to the dark. He didn't switch lights on as he carefully checked each downstairs room.
It was a routine.
Another creak from above. It was time to go upstairs anyway.
A beep from the phone. Was someone using another line?
He crept up the stairs as quickly as he could. Listened at the nearest door. Yes. An urgent hushed voice. He could just make out the words: “Yes…come quickly…I’m sure… someone’s in the house… a burglar.”
Hope you enjoyed that story.
