Notes From Some of my Wonderful Readers

For Breaking Ground

…it was the first Mikey Campling book I've read. But it definitely won't be my last. It's just my sort of story — a type of sci-fi/fantasy undertone mixed with a dash of mystery and intrigue regarding what's going on. But readers who don't normally dip a toe into this genre will also enjoy what develops into a fascinating tale. Stewart Bint, Author I couldn't wait to get my teeth into this prequel novella and I certainly wasn't disappointed. This book can stand alone as a nice little story with twists and turns and plenty of action, but it also adds lots of detail to the world of ‘Trespass.' D.M. Cain, Author

A Note from Mikey

Breaking Ground is the perfect read for fans of Kate Mosse, Barbara Erskine, and Rysa Walker. And if you're fan of Dr. Who, we'll get along just fine. There are elements of historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and time travel in this book – along with a good measure of suspense and a side-order of thrills. Please note that this book is approx 12,000 words long – it's a gripping, fast-paced, quick read. It's a taster of my work – a bonus story.  As such, it covers a lot of ground and packs a punch – I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

For Trespass

I read the prequel to this book, and it was so good, that I definitely had to move on and read the first book in the series too. Mikey Campling paints a vivid picture of all characters and places, and it all feels very real. I have come to love his writing in a very short time. He tells the story so effortlessly, as if he was just re-telling something he had experienced first hand. Love it.

Anita Soelver

Mikey Campling whisks us back and forth across the years, from the present day quarry, through the quarry being worked in the early 20th Century, right back to the time when the monolith was first discovered aeons ago, and how it is being guarded. It is extremely well written and a real page turner. Story construction is good, and dialogue works well in several styles, including conversations in a bygone age, between quarry workers in 1939, father and son in the present day, and a group of teenage tearaways. All realistically described, this story takes us into its very heart as we see the inexorable paths of each time zone connecting.

Stewart Bint, Author

This book was so intriguing and well written I just couldn't put it down. I don't have much time for reading and so a novel will usually take me a few months to get through. I read this from cover to cover in five days because I just couldn't put it down! The style of writing is accessible and flowed nicely from chapter to chapter. The character development is strong and I could empathise with the protagonist because of the situations he was placed in. The different timelines and narratives give the book dimensions and keep the story interesting throughout.

A Note from Mikey

While Breaking Ground, breaks the ground so to speak, Trespass throws you deep into the world of The Darkeningstone. It's a richly complex and intriguing tale, delivered at a rollicking pace and told across a span of 5,000 years.  There's something for everyone here: adventure, thrills, mystery, suspense and an interweaving set of plots.  And what does it all add up to?  A darn good story.
