It's been a long time coming, and it's had a lot of setbacks including the collapse of the publisher, but the second Darkeningstone novel, Outcast, is finally here.

No spoilers, but fans of Cally will be especially pleased, and of course there's a healthy dollop of Neolithic action, with a whole new tribe for you to meet. There's even a treat for all you dog lovers out there.

Outcast has only been seen by a select few people: an editor, a proofreader, and members of my street team, The Tribe. And now you'll have your chance to find out what happens next, though I'm afraid you'll have to wait just a little longer.

I know, I know. Some of you have been waiting a very long time and I'm very grateful for your patience and understanding. So why the wait?

I wanted to give my subscribers the best chance of getting the book the very second it's released and at the best price, so I've put Outcast up for pre-order on all stores and marked it down to half price, $1.99 and £1.49

If you haven't pre-ordered before, it's very easy – one click and the book is reserved for you and then it's delivered promptly on its release date. Amazon don't even charge you until they deliver.

I hope you feel that's a reasonable way of offering you the book, and I think it's pretty good value considering that the book is quite long – the paperback version has over 400 pages. And I must admit to being terrified! To me, this book feels like that notorious ‘difficult second album'. Will you like it? Will it live up to your expectations?

I have no idea. I can only hope for the best and tell myself that I definitely put the work in, and I know that the editor and proofreader were extremely conscientious and thorough.
